In the late 1980’s, the recycling program was organized. The city was founded by the Portuguese in 1693. Jaime Lerner was at one time the mayor, the governor and also the engineer of Curitiba. Jaime Lerner’s quote is “the city is not a problem, the city is a solution”. Jaime Lerner talked about cities can be saved in less than three years.
